TX-5 Lance Gooden Expressed Racist Views On Twitter

The reason we’re stuck dealing with him is racial gerrymandering.

In case you didn’t hear, the Black lives matter movement has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Well, Lance Gooden didn’t take to that so well, because he took to Twitter and literally said the movement which unequivocally states that the lives of Black people matter does not deserve a Nobel Peace Prize. Then, he took it one step further and said our ex-white nationalist president deserved it instead.

Lance Gooden was also one of the seditious GOP members who attempted to overturn the election results.

Lance Gooden is also one of the GOP members who incited the violent insurrection by spreading fake news regarding the election.

Going back on Gooden’s Twitter feed, you can see he has a long history of racism.

I’m tired of asking why these assholes keep getting elected.

But, we really have to look no further than the way his district was drawn. Yep, good ol’ gerrymandering. A sure-fire way to stick extremists into office, who will work directly against the best interests of the people he’s supposed to represent.

Gooden’s district encompasses Anderson, Cherokee, Dallas, Henderson, Kaufman, Van Zandt, and Wood Counties.

Cherokee County is fresh on my mind, (maybe yours, too), because of that lunatic city councilman in Rusk.

Well, he only represents 14% of Dallas County, but that’s how gerrymandering works.

In numbers, want to guess what the most populous county that Gooden represents is?

If you said Dallas, you are correct.

According to the 2010 census, (likely much higher now), out of the 698,488 people Gooden is supposed to represent, 328,522 of them are in Dallas County. That’s 47%.

Here’s the funny thing. Lance Gooden lost that area by 19 points.

This is how gerrymandering works.

Lance Gooden lost Dallas County with 39% of the vote, but he won Kaufman County with 67%, Cherokee with 77% of the vote, and Anderson with 78%.

Then, Henderson by 80%, Wood by 83%, and Van Zandt by 83%.

Nearly double of the number of people who voted against Lance Gooden in Dallas County than voted for him in Wood and Van Zandt combined.

This is how gerrymandering works.

All in all, in Congressional District 5, 173,836 voted for Lance Gooden and 106,577 voted for one of his opponents.

What do people in East Dallas have in common with people in Canton? Not much.

If it wasn’t for gerrymandering, more people in Texas would have elected officials in Texas that represent them.

So, what can be done right now?

Hold them accountable. When your elected officials spread hate and racism on social media, call them, write them, speak out against them. Is Lance Gooden your rep? You need to let him know how you feel. Is Lance Gooden NOT your rep? Then you should reach out to whomever your elected official is and ask them to take a stand against them.

The days of rolling your eyes and brushing it off as another idiot Republican need to be put behind us. There are 5.2 million Democrats in Texas and we need to let them know we’re here and we aren’t going to tolerate it anymore.

We ALL need to stand up to them, otherwise they will continue to take actions that hurt us.
